Kama Sutra in Hinduism

The Kama Sutra (Kāmasūtra) is an ancient Indian Hindu text considered to be the standard text and images in Sanskrit literature authored by Vātsyāyana. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual matters and is largely in prose and poetic verses. "Kāma" which is one of the three goals of Hindu life, means sensual or sexual pleasure, and "sūtra" means a thread or a line that holds things together.

It is a form of a manual. Contrary to some people’s perception, in the western countries, Kama sutra is not just an exclusive sex manual; it presents itself as a guide to a virtuous and gracious living that explains the nature of love, family life and other aspects pertaining to pleasure faculties of human beings.

It is the oldest of a group of texts known generically as Kama Shastra .

Historians attribute Kamasutra to be composed between 400 BCE and 200 CE.
